The new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV has a “plug-in” hybrid version for the first time.
The American carmaker Jeep officially unveiled the new, fifth-generation Grand Cherokee 2022 on Wednesday.
Apart from the new, more modern design, which we have already seen on the more luxurious Grand Cherokee L version with 7 seats at the beginning of the year, the most important novelty concerns the propulsion systems.
As we mentioned for the first time a Jeep Grand Cherokee has a “plug-in” hybrid drive.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Specs
The hybrid version carries the Grand Cherokee 4xe designation.
At the heart of the powertrain is a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, which, as in the Jeep Wrangler 4xe model, is assisted by two electric motors, while electricity is stored in a 17 kWh battery.
The total combined power of the hybrid drive is 380 hp (280 kW), and the maximum torque is 637 Nm.
The manufacturer claims that the car in purely electric driving mode exceeds 40 km, and the total range in hybrid mode reaches 708 km.
In the U.S. domestic market, the new Grand Cherokee will also be available with conventional powertrains.
The base version will be powered by a Pentastar 3.6 V6 engine with 298 hp (219 kW) and a torque of 353 Nm, while the top of the range will be a 5.7-liter V8 with 361 hp (266 kW) and 529 Nm.
Interior
Interior comes with leather upholstery, a power-operated rear liftgate, heated front, and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, interior ambient lighting, automatic high-beam headlamps, remote start, and more.
Towing Capacity
It should be noted that all versions have the ability to tow heavy trailers. In the case of hybrids, the maximum towing capacity is 2,720 kg, in the V6 version – 2,812 kg, and in the V8 version – as much as 3,265 kg.
Depending on the version, the new generation Grand Cherokee model will be available with one of three 4 × 4 systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic differential with limited slip (eLSD).
Each has an active junction box for optimal torque distribution to the wheels with the best grip.
Quadra-lift air suspension is standard, which allows a distance of up to 287 mm from the ground, and the Grand Cherokee 4xe can overcome water obstacles up to 610 mm deep.
The Selec-Terrain traction control system allows the driver to choose between five different driving modes.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Release Date
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee will arrive on the American market by the end of the year 2021, and in European showrooms in the second half of 2022.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Price
It is not yet known whether Jeep, apart from the hybrid version, is planning some other power options, but we will probably find out that, as well as the price (MSRP), in a few months. The price should range from $60,000 and up depending on the specs.
