Check out the first official teaser for “Gaslit,” the new mini-series Watergate starring Julia Roberts as Martha Mitchell and the unrecognizable Sean Penn as Nixon’s loyal attorney general, John Mitchell.
In this new STARZ mini-series, Julia Roberts plays Martha Mitchell, the wife of U.S. Attorney General John N. Mitchell who became an outspoken critic of President Richard Nixon’s re-election campaign at the time of the Watergate scandal.
The cast also includes Dan Stevens as Nixon White House adviser John Dean; Betty Gilpin as Mo Dean, and Shea Whigham as Watergate “plumber” Mr. Gordon Liddy.
Based on the first season of Leon Neyfakh’s “Slow Burn” podcast, the executive producers of the STARZ series are “Mr. Robot ”and Homecoming producer / director Sam Esmail. Actor / cameraman Matt Ross (Captain Fantastic) directs and also serves as executive producer on the miniseries.
Gaslit series plot
GASLIT is a modern look at Watergate that focuses on untold stories and forgotten characters of scandal – from Nixon’s clumsy and opportunistic subordinates to deranged fanatics who help and support their crimes to tragic whistleblowers that would eventually lead to the collapse of an entire rotten company. The story will focus on Martha Mitchell played by Julia Roberts. A great personality with an even bigger mouth. Martha is a celebrity from the Arkansan Society and the wife of Nixon’s loyal attorney general, John Mitchell, played by Sean Penn. Despite her party affiliation, she was the first person to publicly sound the alarm over Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, which led to the unfolding of both the Presidency and her personal life.
