After an extremely successful first Avatar film, Cameron then signed contracts to shoot four more films about the Avatar. We bring you everything we know so far about the next movie in the franchise: Avatar 2.
James Cameron delighted audiences in 2009 with the film Avatar whose story is visually stunning as well as environmentally conscious. The avatar takes us to a somewhat distant future on a planet called Pandora, where people on Earth launched a mining operation and disrupted the lives of the Na’vi, Pandora’s humanoid natives.
In an effort to interact with the Na’vi, humans have created an “Avatar,” a Na’vi body governed by the technologically inserted consciousness of man.

The first Avatar was absolutely revolutionary for its time.
Cameron worked with linguists to create a fully functional Na’vi language, invented his own specialized camera to capture the facial expressions of actors, and paved the way for the future use of motion recording animation. The effects of Avatar were absolutely revolutionary for their time, and the film broke all kinds of box office records.

When is Avatar 2 filmed?
After James Cameron announced in February 2017 that the writing of the sequels was complete, preliminary filming of Avatar 2 began in California on August 15, 2017, and work on the digital effects began that summer as well. In September 2017, the main shooting for both Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 began, with much of the underwater motion filming taking place between November 2017 and May 2018 through June 2018.
Zoe Saldana finished filming her parts for Avatar 2 and its sequel, and the filming then moved to New Zealand and lasted for the next six months. Recording of the movement was finally completed in November 2018, followed by a live recording.
Live filming in New Zealand then began in February 2019, lasted until November of that year and was interrupted for the holidays, and continued in 2020. The Covid-19 pandemic stopped filming Avatar 2 on March 17, 2020, forcing production to stay in Los Angeles indefinitely. Filming in New Zealand finally resumed in June 2020, and James Cameron announced in September 2020 that live filming was complete.
What is the plot for Avatar 2?
Although many details of Avatar 2 have remained secret, we know that this second part was set on Pandora approximately 12 years after the first film. Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) has lived on Pandora for many years since he decided to permanently transfer human consciousness into his Avatar body and become the new leader of the Na’vi people. He and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana), originally from Na’vi, have since started a family and had children.
RDA colonizing forces and their mining operations returned to Pandora in reviving the original quest, forcing Jake Sully and Neytiri to flee their homes. Avatar 2 will explore the unknown parts of Pandora and focus on the underwater life of the planet, where we will meet the people of Metkayina. Metkayina is a clan of Pandora natives living among the reefs and oceans and is the central community of the second film.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Cameron said of the sequels: “It will be a natural extension of all themes, characters, and spiritual underground currents. Basically, if you loved the first movie, you’ll like these movies too, and if you hated it, you’ll probably hate them. If you loved him then and later said you hated him, you will probably like him. ”
We look forward to the second part of Avatar!
