Google maps now have a dark theme in their iOS applications. The long-awaited feature will allow users to save battery, and the gray tone interface reduces eye strain while maintaining the minimum contrast ratio required for the application. Apple debuted Dark Mode on its phones some time ago, during the launch of iOS 13. However, it took Google almost two years to support this feature on both Android and iOS. Earlier this year, the company announced the introduction of a dark mode for Google Maps in iOS.
In August, Google Maps announced the addition of dark mode to its iOS app. According to the report The Verge, this feature is available from September to individual users, and from today to everyone.
How to enable Google Maps Dark Mode
To turn on the dark theme on the iOS app, tap the profile picture, then go to Settings and tap Dark mode. You can choose to turn it on, off, or set it to Same as device setting. When activated, the background of Google Maps turns dark gray. Location names and views appear in a lighter shade. All colors are characteristic in nature.
In February of this year, Google made Dark Mode available for Google Maps on Android. Other features that have arrived in Google Maps in recent months include eco-friendly routes, easy navigation for cyclists, and information on sharing bikes and scooters. In addition to environmentally friendly routes, Google Maps will recommend routes that are optimized for minimum fuel consumption. The Lite navigation feature will give cyclists warnings about their route without having to enter turn-by-turn navigation that requires the screen to be turned on. With bicycle and scooter sharing information, users can easily check nearby stations and how many vehicles are available at any time on Google Maps.
I personally use the Google maps App all the time and find it very useful. I like Google maps offline feature, once I was abroad and I didn’t have a mobile data plan for that country and I had to go to some remote place. I was extremely surprised and happy when Google maps offline feature took me to that destination even telling me where to turn etc. Love it!
