The upcoming AirPods Pro could undergo a major redesign with lossless audio support

New AirPods Pro 2 could undergo a major redesign with lossless audio support

Apple presented the original AirPods headphones after removing the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 line. Since then, these wireless headphones have evolved and started to support more advanced features. For example, the latest 3rd generation AirPods include new skin detection sensors. However, there is a significant feature that is not yet supported on any of the AirPods models – lossless sound. Fortunately, rumors point to the possibility that Apple will finally include it in the upcoming AirPods Pro 2nd Gen.

According to a MacRumors report, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the upcoming AirPods Pro 2nd Gen earbuds could support the Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC). Current AirPods models stream audio via Bluetooth, which limits the output to a lossy format. If the company is actually going to support ALAC on the new Pro model, it will most likely evolve or depend on other wireless technology.

Kuo also notes that the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen could include a case with speaker holes. These earbuds are supposed to aim to make it easier to locate lost cases via Find My. He also reiterated that they could include a significant redesign that eliminates the handle of the headset. In addition, future models are expected to include health-focused features. However, he did not share whether any of them will be included in AirPods Pro 2nd Gen earbuds.

Since Apple Music now supports ALAC in most of its catalog, it is expected that there will be high demand for the new AirPods Pro 2nd Gen. The company has included improved sound quality at no extra charge, and some of its rivals have already started to follow suit.

AirPods Pro 2 price and release date

The upcoming AirPods Pro 2 are expected to be launched during the fourth quarter of 2022, probably during the iPhone 14 event. it is still unknown how much it will cost but since AirPods Pro is sold at $249 the new AirPods Pro 2  should be around the same price range. However, if the rumors turn out to be true, it will be a big upgrade compared to the original AirPods Pro headphones.
