Ten years after the franchise’s last Scream movie, and Wes Craven’s 2015 death as director of the first four films, the original cast returns in this fifth installment that brings novelty and a bit of irony to its legacy.
In the first frames of the Scream trailer, the mechanics of this horror face a new generation that is inseparable from their mobile phones and does not care about the whistling ringing of landlines, which have become a rarity nowadays. This leads to the fact that, to our satisfaction, the new Ghostface and its attacks become even more unpredictable.
We see the determined Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), the enterprising Gael Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) who is completely tired, but who are not at all surprised that this new story brings them back to Woodsboro.

For Paramount to succeed in this new challenge, they decided to entrust the direction of the duo consisting of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. They became famous for their 2019 horror film Wedding Nightmare.
As the new Ghostface himself says, as the new film director, he is honored to have met Sidney.

Whether they succeeded in that remains to be seen for the premiere of the Scream 5 movie, the release date is scheduled for January 14, 2022 (United States).
