With the official announcement that it will only sell zero-emission vehicles in Europe by 2035, Toyota has also promoted an experimental version of the sporty GR Yaris.
It is a GR Yaris H2 concept vehicle that uses hydrogen and technology already used in the Corolla that participates in the Super Taikyu racing series in Japan.
The engine is a 1.6-liter turbo three-cylinder from the 2022 GR Yaris, but modified to use hydrogen.
This is a separate project from the hydrogen fuel cells in the Toyota Mirai, although the GR Yaris H2 concept uses the same hydrogen tanks and charging process as the Mirai.
Other details were not announced, but it was announced that the development will continue through the difficult conditions in car industry in Japan.
Toyota’s Europe CEO Matt Harrison said: “The uplifting message of the GR Yaris H2 is this: even in a zero-emissions future, we could still enjoy motoring thrills similar to those we enjoy today.”
We don’t have any official information about the release date or the price of the new Toyota GR Yaris H2 2022 hatchback.
