New Waymo Zeekr EV robotaxi

In collaboration with Chinese manufacturer Geely, American Waymo has introduced the electric and fully autonomous Zeekr vehicle, which will become a new part of their autonomous taxi fleet

Once Google’s department, and today an independent company, Waymo, will complement its U.S. fleet of autonomous taxis with a new type of vehicle. Their Zeekr robotaxi was designed in Sweden and made in China, in the plants of the large electric vehicle manufacturer Geely.

Zeekr is designed from the ground up as an exclusively autonomous vehicle, a passenger minivan with a flat floor, a B-pillar design for easier entry and exit of passengers, and a spacious interior that can be adapted to passengers. There are no steering wheel or driver pedals in the cab. All that is left of the steering console is a touch screen that can be given commands to this autonomous vehicle.

Waymo’s own autonomous control system, Waymo Driver, which is called “the most experienced driver in the world”, is in charge of driving. It is still in development and testing, and in the coming years will be in use as a fully autonomous system that transports passengers on demand, in accordance with the highest standards and regulations.
