As soon as the premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley” movie passed, praise began to pour in, and many went a step further, so they have already awarded the Oscar to this film.
The premiere of the film, which is based on the novel of the same name by William Lindsay from 1946, was held yesterday in New York. Starring Bradley Cooper as Stan and Cate Blanchett as Dr. Lilith.
Besides them, Willem Dafo, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Tony Colette and others also appear in the film.
Variety magazine editor Ramin Situd was among the first to comment on the film, with special reference to Bradley Cooper’s acting.
“Bradley Cooper will most likely win the Oscar for acting in Alley of Nightmares,” he wrote, while his colleague from the same magazine dedicated a few words of praise to Del Toro.
“There are two films within the Nightmare Alley. In one, Bradley Cooper won an Oscar, in the other, a golden statue goes on the shelf of visionary director Guillermo del Toro. “One of those two, both or nothing, can happen, but at the very least, the race for that prestigious award in the category for the best scenography ended tonight,” said Clayton Davis.
Film critic Jazz Tengley described this achievement as brilliant.
“Guillermo del Toro made an incredibly beautiful and great film. The scenography is breathtaking, and the acting is spectacular, led by Bradley Cooper, who brought the best role this year, “said Tengley.
On the other hand, his colleague Robert Daniels was not so enthusiastic.
“I’m not impressed with the film. Everything is very blurry, that I was not able to see the faces of the actors. There were moments when I had to strain my eyes to see the dancer. “The film was too long, and Bradley Cooper did not delight me,” he wrote in his critique.
However, this was a lone negative criticism, considering that the praise came from Kevin Polovi from the Yahoo Entertainment portal, but also from the famous writer and film critic Eric Davis.
“Guillermo del Toro’s Alley of Nightmares is seductive in the sense that it distracts you from the story of a man lost in fraud. “The scenes between Cooper and Blanchett are great,” Davis said.
The first film based on the novel of the same name was made in 1947, and Ron Perlman, a longtime collaborator of del Toro, suggested to the director the idea of shooting a new version in 1992, but then failed to realize the project because Fox owned the rights.
Before the premiere, Cooper revealed that he accepted the role in part because of his collaboration with the director and Perlman.
“I accepted the role because of the opportunity to work with all these people, primarily with Guillermo, but also with the cast that has already been put together. It was every actor’s dream, “he said.
