Opera launched its Web3 “Crypto Browser” in beta version with features such as built-in crypto wallet, easy access to exchanges cryptocurrency/ NFT, support for decentralized applications (dApps) and more. The goal is to “simplify the Web3 user experience, which is often confusing for mainstream users,” Opera Executive Vice President Jorgen Arnensen said in a statement.
A key feature is the built-in wallet that will support blockchain from the very beginning, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Celo and Nervos. He also announced a partnership with Polygon and others. The idea is to allow you to access your cryptocurrency without the need for extensions, with the option of using third-party wallets. You can buy cryptocurrencies, change cryptocurrencies directly in the wallet, send and receive them and check the balance in the wallet. It even has a secure interface that ensures that other applications cannot transfer data when copying / pasting.
Another primary feature is support for Web3, a decentralized blockchain-based Internet also known as a new thing among crypto enthusiasts (and skeptics). In addition to providing additional security through blockchain encryption, it allows users to access things like GameFi “where you can earn while playing your way through all sorts of metaverses,” Opera notes. It also offers a “Crypto Corner” with the latest blockchain news that also “allows you to improve your Web3 skills”, according to Opera.
Opera rival Mozilla recently announced that it would accept cryptocurrency donations, but it met with a reaction from users, including co-founder Jamie Zawinski, due to the impact of the blockchain on the environment. Perhaps expecting a similar reaction, Opera said it was working to implement the more energy-efficient Etherium Layer 2 standard “as soon as possible”.
Other companies like Ubisoft that jump into the blockchain train with NFTs and other offerings have been hit with similar criticism. However, Opera at least gives its users a choice with more browser options, as it also offers its standard Opera browser and one designed for gamers. Crypto browser is now available for Android, Windows and Mac, and the iOS version will be available soon.
