Samsung has announced a mobile camera sensor with a huge resolution of 200 megapixels this year, but has yet to use it in a retail device. We certainly hoped that this ultra high-resolution sensor in Samsung’s ISOCELL line would enter the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but instead it turned out that the company’s flagship model from 2022 will again have a third-generation 108MP unit, although much improved.
However, according to Leakster Ice Universe, Samsung will be ready for mass application of 200MP ISOCELL sensor on time for Galaxy S23 and will continue to improve it in the next few flagship models without changing the number of pixels in the sensor. What can you expect from Samsung’s upcoming flagship camera sensor?
Well, if the 200 megapixel sensor sounds excessive, let’s remember that this is the maximum resolution of a camera supported by chipsets like Snapdragon 888 or even Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and Samsung is nothing but maximalist when it comes to phones in its Ultra line. The magic of Nanocell pixel merging will result in astonishing pixel size on such a high resolution camera, and Samsung has proven that it can bypass most of the pitfalls that giant tiny pixel camera sensors present with their 108MP units, so we can’t wait to see a phone with 200MP camera, reports Phone Arena.
Still, Samsung may not be the first to come with a new 200MP camera – after all, the first user of its 108MP units was Xiaomi, but Samsung, we believe, will be the one to get the most out of its hardware, perhaps from the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
