Facebook Inc. was officially renamed last night Meta Platforms Inc. at the Connect 2021 event. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Meta will aim to integrate company applications and technologies under one new company brand. According to the company, Meta’s focus will be to revive the metaverse and help people connect, find communities and grow their businesses.
Hours after the announcement was made, the first details about the company’s new product were leaked. Meta’s first smartwatch has appeared and it is said that this wearable device wants to take the place held by the Apple Watch, and it is interesting that there is a camera for video calls on the watch. According to a Bloomberg report, Meta is preparing to launch a smartwatch consisting of a front camera and a rounded screen. A picture of the watch was reportedly found in one of Meta’s iPhone apps. The image of the smartwatch reveals the rounded corners of the watch with a uniform frame on all sides along with a drop-shaped camera cutout – but at the bottom of the screen. On the right side there is a button – which can be used for navigation.
The image was noticed in Meta’s application – the application for controlling new smart glasses – Ray-Ban Stories, as reported Bloomberg. Further, the report confirms that the watch will also have a replaceable strap. Since the watch has a camera, the wearable device will probably get the ability to support video calls – which would definitely make the watch stand out from the crowd and the competition. A previous report suggests that the brand’s first smartwatch will be launched in 2022.
Previous leaks also suggest that the company will launch a smartwatch with two cameras. The company is also working with some of the leading US wireless operators to support LTE connectivity.
