The Matrix Awakens, you didn’t expect this. Epic Games has already prepared and shown us impressive technical demos made in its Unreal Engine 5. However, so far they have not been playable or associated with a well-known license.
To impress us, the American studio decided on a great move by giving us an impressive demo that this time is free, playful and tied to the Matrix movie universe.

The demo is called The Matrix Awakens and is available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It is a mixture of animation and a playful part of the demo where you have control over a character who can walk the streets, take the wheel of parked cars and even fly. All in order to show you what can be done with the help of Unreal Engine 5 on the new generation consoles.
The Matrix Awakens, more than just a demo
The virtual environment consists of over seven million different objects – seven thousand buildings, 45,073 cars (of which 38,146 can be driven), 260 km of roads, 512 km of sidewalks, 1,248 intersections, 27,848 street lights and 12,422 manholes. Although the main goal is to demonstrate photorealistic graphics, the authors (Epic claims that a small group of developers is responsible for this) especially emphasize the movement of passers-by and traffic.
I own a PlayStation 5 console and of course, I tried live what you could see in the video, it really looks impressive. I can’t wait for the first games that will be able to take advantage of these great technical possibilities and maximize the use of the next gen hardware of the new consoles.
The Matrix Awakens price
The demo is available for free download for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and plan about 30 GB of free space on your SSD hard drives.
