Toyota Gazoo Racing has introduced the Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1 + brand new race car for the Dakar Rally 2022. A brand new design has now come out of the prototype phase, but will continue to evolve and refine in the weeks before the Dakar Rally, which begins in early January next year. Saudi Arabia.

Powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine (V35A Production Engine) derived from the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport, the new GR DKR Hilux T1 + has more torque at low revs than its predecessor, as well as weight gains engine, although the total weight of the car according to regulations has been increased to 2000 kg. The performance of the new engine is regulated by the rules set by the FIA, and as such offers 298 kW (405HP) of power and approximately 660 Nm. The transmission is Sadev’s 6-speed sequential, all-wheel drive with three differentials, and the 215 mm Ceramic Twin Plate clutch plate
Thanks to the state-of-the-art production version of the Land Cruiser 300 V6 twin turbo engine, the team was able to work with the production engine. Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ Specs
The Toyota GR DKR Hilux T1+ also has an increased suspension suspension system from 280 mm to 350 mm, which allows the driver to make the most of the new 37-inch (940 mm) tires. The tire width has also been increased from 245 mm to 320 mm. The tires are BF Goodrich All-terrain T / A KDR2.
The new 17-inch alloy wheels of the Method Race Wheels will accentuate the larger tires of the new car. These wheels were an integral part of the development of T1 + and the team decided to leave the wheels in their natural aluminum finish, because it offers an advantage in terms of heat radiation, ie cooling.
The dimensions of the new GR DKR Hilux T1 + are as follows: length 4810 mm, width 2300 mm, height 1890 mm, and wheelbase 3140 mm.
Engine
Under the body, the Hilux has kept the same layout with a centrally mounted engine that has been in use since the Dakar 2016. The car now carries only two spare tires instead of the three that were in use in the past, due to a change in regulations for the T1 + category.
The new car has the latest exterior design when it comes to colors, which is in line with the one used in the WEC and WRC. As such, the new Toyota GR DKR Hilux, which will also compete in the 2022 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship, is clearly part of Toyota Gazoo Racing line of racing cars for the World Championship. The iconic GR inscription has now been adopted by all three teams of the World Championship, although the Dakar Hilux has been part of the Gazoo Racing family for many years. This inscription also serves to strengthen the connection between Toyota race cars and exciting road cars bearing the same inscription.
For the Dakar 2022, the team will offer four all-new GR DKR T1 + versions of the Hilux, with Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and French co-driver Mathieu Baumel leading the Toyota Gazoo Racing. The winners of the 2019 Dakar Rally will once again have Giniel de Villiers (Dakar winner 2009) as a teammate, and the South African will be in partnership with co-driver Dennis Murphy for the 2022 edition of the race.
South Africans Hank Lategan and Brett Cummings will return to the Dakar Rally, with the goal of showing their speed after giving up during the 5th phase of the Dakar Rally 2021. The last car in the lineup will be driven by Shameer Variawa and co-driver Danie Stassen, from South Africa.
The team will conduct a final test in South Africa while preparing cars for transport to Saudi Arabia in early December. The final route for Dakar 2022 has yet to be announced, but the terrain is expected to be similar to that of 2020 and 2021.
