Volvo announces more electric vehicles

Volvo said earlier that it intends to become a manufacturer of fully electric cars by 2030, and has now revealed how it plans to achieve its goal.

As it says Automotive News, the plan will feature several new and redesigned models to appear “in the next few years”, according to the report, consisting of five electric vehicles and two plug-in hybrid vehicles. The presentation of new products will start next year.

It has been revealed that these future vehicles are large and small crossovers, limousines and two “activity vehicles” that will probably have a body similar to a sports caravan, writes. Automotive News.

The first of these future models is a large crossover that draws inspiration for the look from the Concept Recharge studio, which will have three rows of seats. Volvo expects to sell 20,000 units of this electric crossover in 2023, it says Automotive News. As a result, production capacity at Volvo’s South Carolina plant in the United States will be increased, the report added.

Another new electric crossover, internal code name V546, should debut in 2025, writes Automotive News. This will be a model that will be set between the Volvo XC60 and XC90 in terms of size, and will be produced in the United States as well as China. The annual production of this model is expected to be 100,000 units, the report added.

These models are joined by the all-electric version of the XC60, as well as a new electric vehicle mounted below the Volvo XC40.

The new models also mean that Volvo will have to significantly increase production at its plant in South Carolina, which operated well below its capacity of 150,000 vehicles, and which will be the production site for the Volvo XC90 and Polestar 3.
