Although the car market changes over time, some trends and the most common scams of car dealers still remain the same, IT data processing company carVertical, which prepares reports on used cars in 25 world markets, has published an annual report with interesting statistics for the automotive community, concerning used vehicles.

BMW cars are most often damaged
Interestingly, not all cars are involved in traffic accidents as often as others. It may not be surprising that BMW cars are at the top of the list in terms of damage – 47.77% of all BMWs on the market are damaged.
On the other hand, only 29.53% of Fiat cars were involved in a collision.
Overall data say all damage reports together over the past year have reached damage of nearly 3.3 billion euros.

18.5% of all checked cars have false mileage readings
According to car history reports generated during the year, mileage returns are one of the most common ways car buyers are deceived.
18.5% of all reports from last year showed signs of forgery of odometers. Numerically speaking, that’s 7.1 billion total kilometers returned on tested vehicles.

The Škoda Octavia is most often stolen
Thieves continued to steal in 2021, and suspicious sellers continued to offer such cars.
Last year, the company that provides car history reports generated 672 reports on cars marked as stolen. These data showed that the Škoda Octavia is the most stolen, with 38 stolen vehicles.
According to reports, the probability of stealing the Octavia is 3.75 times higher than stealing the BMW 3 Series.

Favorite used cars 2021: BMW, Volkswagen and Audi
According to the report, BMW, Volkswagen and Audi are the most popular car manufacturers. These three brands together make up 13% of all cars tested through the platform.
The BMW 3 Series is the customer’s favorite, accounting for about 5% of all carVertical reports. The VW Passat and Audi A4 follow in the footsteps, while third-party models appear only at the end of the top 15 list.
Other popular car models on this list are the BMW 5 Series, VW Golf, Audi A6, Škoda Octavia, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Opel Astra, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Ford Focus, Audi A3, BMW X5, Škoda Superb and BMW Series. 1.

BMW is the oldest of all the cars tested
The number of older BMW cars is higher than almost any other car. 40.38% of BMWs tested by users in 2021 were produced between 1990 and 2010.
At the same time, for VW and Audi these numbers are only 14.56% and 19.97%. The percentage of older cars is even lower at manufacturers such as Citroën – only 10.92%.
Data on newer vehicles creates an even worse picture of BMW. As many as 52.06% of BMWs produced after 2010 were damaged.
